The Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS), the Tübingen College of Fellows (CoF), and the Zukunftskolleg Konstanz (ZuKo) invite early career researchers, whose work is restricted due to political pressure in the USA, to apply for the Baden-Württemberg Early Career Rescue Fellowships 2026-2028."

    "The fellowships are available to researchers from all over the world and from any discipline represented at one if the three universities with a minimum of one year and a maximum of seven years of post-doctoral experience, who cannot conduct or continue their work in the USA appropriately because of actual political pressure. The aim is to provide time and space for their excellent research and open up international prospects for their future career. The programme offers a two-year research position at one of the three universities, preferred by the applicant, and local disciplinary cooperation, as well as support, resources, networks and exchange within the respective Institute for Advanced Studies with its international and interdisciplinary community of fellows."

    "The Max Planck – University of Helsinki Center for Social Inequalities in Population Health is currently seeking to appoint one or more full-time post-doctoral researchers. We welcome applications from researchers with a PhD in demography, sociology, statistics, epidemiology, public health, biology, anthropology, economics, computer science, and allied fields. The successful candidate(s) will work on the role of genetic factors in shaping health inequalities, and/or they will develop novel techniques for leveraging genetic data. We are also open to applicants interested in the other research themes of the Center (family and health, health inequalities in an international perspective), and in other topics covered in the Department Social Demography at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR), including fertility, mortality and morbidity, and labor markets. The successful candidate(s) will develop their own agenda within the Center, and they will contribute their skills and knowledge to other projects in the Center and to the MPIDR. We are seeking creative, self-driven, and collaborative scholars. Advanced knowledge of quantitative methods and statistical software such as R, Python, or Stata is required."

    "It is expected that the successful applicant(s) will be in residence at the MPIDR in Rostock, Germany, and support for relocation costs is available. ... In order to receive full consideration, please apply by January 11, 2026. Interviews are planned for February 2 to February 13. The exact starting date is flexible. Applicants should have completed their doctoral degree; however, candidates expecting to finish their PhD in 2026 can also apply."

    "The Computational Science and Modeling Program (CSMP) is a new PhD program that prepares the next generation of leaders in computational discovery and innovation. At Dartmouth, you will join a collaborative, interdisciplinary community where foundational theory meets real-world impact across the sciences, medicine, business, and engineering.

    "The Guarini School’s new graduate program in Computational Science and Modeling trains students to apply advanced computational methods to solve complex problems across science, medicine, engineering, and the social sciences. ... Today, computational approaches are fundamental to research in biology, computer science, climate and earth science, engineering, geology, social sciences, and business."

    "Admission to the Computational Science and Modeling Program is highly competitive. Successful applicants will have a strong undergraduate record in disciplines that have a computational science and/or modeling component. This could be reflected either by coursework or supervised research. A clear interest in interdisciplinary research is also required."

    "The Phi Beta Kappa Society ... Key into Public Service scholarship program highlights the wide range of career opportunities for arts and sciences majors in local, state, or federal government. In recognition of the Society's 250th anniversary year, a cohort of 20 Service Scholars at Phi Beta Kappa chapter institutions will each receive a $7,600 undergraduate scholarship. Membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Society is not required to receive this scholarship."

    The deadline for submission of the application is Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 11:59pm ET. 

    Applicants must be enrolled at one of Phi Beta Kappa’s 290+ chapter institutions. Membership in Phi Beta Kappa is not required for eligibility. 

    Applicants should expect to graduate between 12/1/2026 and 8/1/2028. First-year students and seniors who will graduate in Spring/Summer 2026 are NOT eligible.

    "The dissertation research grants (DRG) program supports innovative and high-quality dissertation research projects that address questions relevant to RSF’s priority areas: Behavioral Science and Decision Making in Context; Future of Work; Race, Ethnicity and Immigration; Immigration and Immigrant Integration; and Social, Political, and Economic Inequality. Proposed projects must be closely aligned with the funding priorities listed on the RSF website for any of these areas, contribute to RSF’s mission to improve social and living conditions in the U.S., and demonstrate appropriate use of relevant theory, innovative data, rigorous research methods, and measures."

    "Applicants must be enrolled doctoral students at an institution of higher education in the U.S. or a U.S. territory, who have completed all program requirements except the dissertation. ... Dissertation grants are up to $15,000. These grants will support all aspects of dissertation research (data collection, data preparation, data analysis and writing), but are not intended for students who have completed data collection and analysis and propose to spend the entire grant period writing the dissertation."

    "Stanford University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of Environmental Behavioral Sciences within the Department of Environmental Social Sciences. The scope of the search is broad, and we welcome applications from candidates involved in any aspect of the study of human behavior, human ecology, or human institutions as they pertain to sustainability, climate change, adaptation, or resilience. We are particularly interested in scholars working in the structural social sciences, including topics such as social movements, organizations/networks, collective action, political economy, population science. We are also interested in applicants who could teach computational social science for sustainability. Candidates must possess a PhD, JD, or terminal degree in a field relevant to the search by the time of the appointment, an excellent record of scholarly work, and a dedication to teaching.

    "Since its founding more than 20 years ago, the Institute for Qualitative and Multi-Method Research (IQMR) has welcomed more than 3,000 graduate students and junior faculty.

    "Participants in IQMR are nominated by their home school or department, or selected from an 'open pool.'

    "The two-week institute trains participants to create and critique methodologically sophisticated qualitative research designs; explores the techniques, uses, strengths and limitations of qualitative methods, and emphasizes their relationships with alternative approaches. Participants also receive constructive feedback on their own research designs."

    IQMR 2026 will run from June 14-26

    Open Pool: There are four separate open-pool competitions to attend IQMR 2026: the general open pool; an open pool for researchers at African scholarly institutions; an open pool for researchers at Latin American scholarly institutions; and an open pool for scholars based at scholarly institutions in the Arab MENA region. Scholars admitted through the African, Latin American and MENA open-pool competitions will have participation at IQMR covered, will receive a stipend for meals, and will have lodging covered for the duration of the institute, as well as roundtrip economy-class airfare. 

    Nomination: In addition to receiving applications through the open-pool process, IQMR also accepts participants who are nominated to attend by their home unit (center/department/school) using their own selection procedures. Nominations will open in early January and are due by Feb. 28, 2026. Sponsoring institutions pay a fee for attendees.

    "The National Institute on Aging Demography and Economics Coordinating Center (NIA DECC) will help 16 NIA-funded Demography and Economics of Aging (D&E) Centers realize their full potential to generate impactful research, facilitate new and innovative collaborations, and broaden the community of aging scholars. NIA DECC has four objectives: (1) serve as the administrative hub of the D&E Centers; (2) facilitate synergistic collaborations to catalyze new aging research; (3) expand the impact of the D&E Centers’ research through effective dissemination; and (4) coordinate tracking and reporting to reduce redundant effort and increase productivity."

    The Center is a unit of the University of Minnesota and currently has two open positions; application review began October 20, 2025:

    NIA DECC Coordinator, ID 370494: The DECC Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operations of the DECC; serve as a key liaison across DECC stakeholders; manage DECC research events, and support DECC programs and dissemination.

    NIA DECC Communications Manager, ID 370497 - The DECC Communications Manager will be in charge of developing, implementing, and evaluating the Center’s communications program with the guidance and support of the DECC Communications Leadership Team.

    "The Echidna Global Scholars Program’s Visiting Fellowship is hosted by the Center for Universal Education (CUE), within the Global Economy and Development program, at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC.

    "The Program aims to strengthen the capacity of local leaders to advance gender equality in and through education across the Global South and globally. During a six-month Fellowship at Brookings, spanning a pre-residency and residency phases, Scholars conduct individual research focused on improving learning opportunities and life outcomes for girls, young women, and gender non-conforming people, develop their leadership and evidence-based policy skills, build substantive knowledge on gender and global education issues, and expand their pathways for impact. 

    "The Program selects professionals with substantial experience in and ties to the Global South, a clear intent to return to the Global South after completing the period of residency at Brookings, and a passion and demonstrated commitment to improving learning opportunities and life outcomes for girls, young women, and gender non-conforming people in and through education. A Master’s degree is required.

    "Applicants selected for the Fellowship will receive a stipend totaling $26,500 USD to support living costs during the pre-residency and residency periods (subject to U.S. tax withholding and reporting). In addition, CUE will cover the costs associated with the visa process, single-occupancy housing for the 4-month residency period, round-trip travel expenses, and a limited health insurance plan."
