"Nonprofit organizations exist to serve the public, and their ability to do so depends on the consistent application of the law and protection from political retaliation. The Treasury Department’s proposed IRS rule, which could revoke the tax-exempt status of private schools based on certain race-conscious practices, raises concerns that extend far beyond higher education. This webinar will explore what this proposal means for colleges and universities, the nonprofit sector, and democratic governance more broadly, examining how regulatory authority is being used to resegregate educational opportunity, and concentrate power by targeting institutions whose missions advance a more pluralistic and democratic society. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the stakes of the proposed rule and the collective strategies needed to safeguard institutional independence and democratic accountability."
