"How can we explain the ongoing resilience of the Islamic Republic of Iran? In the lead up to the 2026 US and Israeli attack on Iran, it was widely believed that the Islamic Republic was on shaky ground. Its economy had collapsed, its population was in revolt, and its senior political and military leadership was assassinated in the early days of war. Nonetheless, the Islamic Republic survived and fought back. Millions of people poured into the streets of Iran in July to mourn the death of the supreme leader. Conservative political groups have occupied public spaces and dominated the internal Iranian political debate on the future of Iran. "How has the Islamic Republic been able to survive for 47 years and where is it headed? Join us for a public conversation with Dr. Narges Bajoghli who will discuss her cutting-edge research on authoritarian resiliency, conservative politics and the future of Iran."
