The Alwaleed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, in partnership with the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, Georgetown University-Qatar, the African Studies Program, and the Department of Theology and Religion, is hosting Dr. Martin Shaw, Emeritus Professor of International Relations at Sussex University, for a talk titled “Gaza in a Historical Perspective on Modern Genocide.”

"Israel’s violence against the civilian population of Gaza, following Hamas’s atrocities, has been widely understood as genocide. In this lecture, Martin Shaw discusses how this should be seen from a historical perspective. Looking at the phenomenon sociologically as well as legally, he surveys the wide range of modern cases in the context of changing world politics. Martin Shaw is a historical sociologist who has written widely on war, genocide, global politics, and social movements."
